News from Hampshire Horsewatch
Attempted theft of a foal
Hedge End, Southampton. 1633 hrs 29th December 2008. A report has been received that an attempt was made to remove a foal from a field. Foal is still with its mother. Circumstances are such that it is believed the incident is a genuine attempt. General warning then to keep a good look out for any suspicious. Bear in mind horses this size can be transported in cars! The foal in question is black and white.....just in case you should see one sat in the back seat of a car ....but then any horse sat in the back seat of a car should ring alarm bells! Couple of years ago a MPV was stopped in Hampshire with a stolen Shetland on board...so it does happen. Reference: RMS 44080573684

Neighbours heard a vehicle in the late evening, but no details. He was taken from his field, no fence disturbances can be seen. Junior riders in Cancer Fundraising initiative
Solent Riding Club Juniors are hoping to raise a huge sum for Cancer Research by running a 'best photo and story' competition on the Internet. The ideas came about after one of the Junior Co-ordinators, had received news that both a close friend and a young mother within "Solent Juniors", had been diagnosed with this disease. The Co-ordinator then set about promoting the competition and getting sponsors to put up the prizes. At the moment there is a prize list approaching the £3,000 mark - and rising, thanks to the generosity of the sponsors.
Every penny collected will go to the Charity - there will be no admin costs.
Both Junior and Senior members of the club, have been asked to help promote public awareness of the competition, by circulating the poster and details, to their friends, families, schools and work colleagues. Competitors will enter a picture of their Mum or Dad, or Pet, or Pony/Horse, plus a story they have written about it. The best entry will win the class. With many attractive and valuable prizes available, the Solent Riding Club Juniors, are hoping that the competition will attract many entries and raise a substantial sum of money for the Charity.
The Solent Riding Club AGM is on Weds 26th November when the event will be officially, launched. The children will model their latest "Solent" garments, while handing out flyers for this "CHARITY COMPETITION".

Hall Place - Dorothy does it again
This Cross Country event postponed from earlier in September due to extreme weather conditions, turned out to be a resounding success with competitors and organisers alike.but also demanding. The ever consistent Whitemill Dorothy ridden by owner Clare Chance won the last class of the day. 'Dottie' not only loves her jumping but is also a prolific dressage winner - this mare just gets better and better.
Hall Place will host two more cross country events in 2009 which will also be qualifiers for the British Horse Society Cross Country Championships. Emma Sumbler, Show Secretary, said 'We are already planning dates for 2009 and a provisional list will be available from early December.

A Quartet of Talent at Hall Place
Four completely different types of horse were in the ribbons at Hall Place Dressage Show.
The first class was won by Poppy Hitchen riding the family's cob 'Frankly Sinatra' (aptly named for his blue eyes). Older sister Emily and mum, Annabel have also recently won rosettes in Show Jumping and Cross Country - this is truly a family horse.
The second winner was Lucy Johnson riding her own Suffolk Punch 'The Governor', not the usual choice of breed for dressage, however, gained really good marks for accuracy and rhythm.
A stunning warmblood stallion 'Saddam' was the novice qualifier for a national competition. This lovely active compact horse was very ably ridden by his owner Sarah Scott.
And the fourth horse was the lovely 'Whitemill Dorothy', a very competent Irish Sports horse who also exceeds at Show Jumping and Cross Country. Dottie not only qualified in the Novice but proceeded to win the Elementary in fine style.

Local Young Rider's Dressage Success
Local rider, Katy Mew from Horndean, had success recently at the Dressage Championships of Great Britain. Katy is 12 years old and has competed successfully at Dressage for the last couple of years. Katy qualified her pony Otty at Hampshire Show Ground, Botley which allowed her to compete at the Dressage Championships of Great Britain in Wales. It was held on Friday 3rd October through to Sunday 5th October.

They arrived Thursday late afternoon with Otty, the venue was very big and the weather was windy. Katy had a warm up class with Otty Friday afternoon it was Prelim 4, she came 3rd with 70.91% the standard was very high. Then she had another competition on Saturday afternoon that was Prelim 7, she came 6th was a little bit disappointed with her score but still rode a lovely test and gave it 110%. The final class was Prelim 4 on Sunday afternoon. Katy then had to wait until about 5.30 pm Sunday until they gave the results and presented the prizes still not knowing how Katy had got on Sunday afternoon, as the organisers hadn't put any scores up. Katy's group was 16 years and under, which had 30 competitors in, all the competitors had to qualifier and came from all over the country. They then announced the results in reserve order, they had bronze, silver and gold medals. They then called out Katy's name and she had come in the bronze position over the two days. She had worked so hard over the weekend and deserved it. She had come 2nd with 75.91% in the Sunday's test.
Well done Katy!
